Dominican Republic to get its first fashion reality show
Dominican Republic, the second largest economy in the Caribbean and Central American region, is set to have its first ever reality show based on fashion and style to be broadcast on the country’s channel 7 Antena Latina. The primetime reality show titled ‘Jumbo Fashionista’ is designed for the competitors to enhance and acquire skills in terms of fashion and styling and help the contestants to foray into the professional world of Dominican fashion.
Jumbo Fashionista would have 14 contestants who would be subjected to various challenges and tests and would be eliminated according to their performances each week.
The show seeks to promote new talent in the Dominican fashion world and the participants would be judged by prominent figures from the Dominican fashion industry like Dominicana moda director, Socrates Mckinney, editor of the journal Pandora, Airiam Toribio, recognized fashion designer and stylist Jose Jhan and leading fashion and interior stylist, George Brown.
Joining these judges would be renowned Dominican stylists Ana Vasquez and Aneury Monegro and other well known personalities who would be mentoring the contestants. The show, which is scheduled to air on August 4, 2013, would conclude in October 2013, with three finalists competing in a final challenge at the ‘Dominicana Moda 2013’, the official fashion week of Dominican Republic.
The winner of the show would be given the opportunity to showcase his/her winning collection at the 8th edition of Dominicana Moda and would also receive training at the School of Design at Altos de Chavon.
