Paris Fashion Week: great opening by Fatima Lopes

Paris Fashion Week started on Tuesday under a wonderful azure sky. First up on the schedule of the fashion week – a spot of sightseeing as reporters and celebrities headed to the Eiffel Tower.

A hall at one of the globe’s most iconic monuments was hired out, that is a luxury that few can afford.

The mission was accomplished for Fatima Lopes who splashed out on the Iron lady’s high-status salle Gustave Eiffel for her Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection show.

The young Portugese designer knows precisely how to fascinate people: in the year 2000, she craeted the most high-priced bikini in the world – a bona fide ‘body jewel’ created of gold and diamonds with a million dollar price label. Producing the grand opening of the final leg of the world fashion week proceedings was a piece of cake for this designer whose middle name is luxury.

It is indeed a great opening! Will Paris be able to pull it off after Milan’s all-powerful knock? The City of Lights may display 91 catwalk shows this season (nearly 20 more than Milan) but the designers here have a hard act to follow. All will be disclosed this Paris Fashion Week.
